GSA Advantage is an online shopping and ordering system that provides access to thousands of contractors and millions of supplies (products) and services. Anyone may browse on GSA Advantage to view and compare the variety of products and services offered.
Federal government contracting offices and/or government employees holding an approved government purchase card (over $800,000) can make purchases on GSA Advantage.
Even State and local government entities can use the site to purchase products and services.
The advantage to your firm is that you can browse GSA Advantage for market research/product planning to see if your product or service is competitive with others selling similar products or services. Here is an example, go to GSA Advantage type in the search bar hand soap. You will notice that all of the vendors that sell hand soap under some type of federal contract are listed along with the each price. It will require some work but you can do it.
Now that you have learned the entry level price points you can use the site to help you make a reasonable determination if you want your product or service to be listed on the site for free international exposure and potential sales. This is an excellent opportunity for small business. Of course, there are many other federal market research options but this is a great start. Later we will discuss how the GSA eLibrary.gov http://www.gsaelibrary.gov fits into this picture. This link will also point you to http://gsaadvantage.gov.
However, there is a caveat ……before you can get your products or services listed on GSA Advantage, you must obtain a federal contract, i.e. a GSA Schedule or other approved federal contract.
